September 5th – 8th 2024 the Seventh Annual U.S. Open Adaptive Surfing Championships powered by the University of St. Augustine was held at Oceanside Pier in Oceanside California. This event in four short years has quickly become the top premiere adaptive surfing event in the world giving away nearly $150,000 dollars in prize money!
The 2024 U.S. Open ASC hosted 85 disabled athletes from 18 nations worldwide. The seventh annual event that has helped the growth of the sport worldwide and has set a new standard for professional competitive adaptive surfing. Athletes with disabilities ranging from paraplegia, quadriplegia, amputation, blindness, competed for the U.S. Open Adaptive Surfing crown.
2024 is the third year of the Association of Adaptive Surfing Professionals true adaptive surfing world championship tour sponsored by Visit Oceanside, which kicked off in March of 2024 at the Blackmores Australia Pro Adaptive Surfing Championships hosting 96 athletes from 19 countries and awarding over $30,000 dollars to adaptive surfers from around the world. Then in May the AASP World tour went to Hawaii for the AccesSurf Hawaii Adaptive Surfing Championships hosting 94 adaptive surfers from 17 countries and awarding $32,000 dollars in prize money. In June the AASP WCT went to Costa Rica and the beautiful break of Boca Barranca for the third stop of the tour hosting 65 adaptive athletes from 14 countries and awarding $25,000 dollars to disabled athletes. The final leg of the AASP World Tour ended here in Oceanside on September 5th– 8th and crowned U.S. Open Adaptive Surfing Champions and also crowned 15 overall points world champion in all divisions.
